it's free and it works

Free Conference Call (dot) com rocks my world. Why? It’s free. It works. It also lets me record my calls for free. I can download my recorded calls as an MP3.

And when I had trouble using their service, I called their 1-800 number. A real person answered. He even dialed into the conference call with me and waited until the problem was solved.

I could not believe that I actually received excellent customer service from a “random” web site.  Anyway, this is a completely unsolicited way to say thank you.

Word Noose

A line that Langston Hughes wrote hit me hard today. “Hang yourself, poet, in your own words. Otherwise, you are dead.”

I understood this to mean that you are deeply connected to the world about which you are writing. And by acknowledging the ways in which you are flawed you are freeing yourself as well.

It made me think of bloggers who criticize traditional media and sometimes by accepting advertising begin to behave like the establishments they criticize.

Or political systems.

Or small businesses that grow large and behave badly.

Yelp! it's a Zync.

After reading Dean Whitney’s review of Zync, I decided to check it out. I joined. It’s awesome. The site goes into more depth than any other site I’ve been on in Boston for local events. If you sneeze on South Street you’re likely to find it as an event on Zync. It looks pretty, too.

I have a wish and a concern however. My wish is that I can easily bookmark the events I wish to attend with having to dig deep into the details of the event. My concern is as soon as local promoters discover this site the quality of the events will decrease.

Through Zync I found out that John Irving is speaking this Tuesday.  See Yelp for a more robust description.
