Feed the Children

I watched a commercial for Feed the Children on TV today. A poor Latin American girl with big sad eyes and tattered clothing strolled down a railroad track as the narrator invited me to save her life. I munched on an apple and changed the channel. I wanted to help.  And I believe the cause is worth contributing to. I realize that what prevented me from giving was my lack in knowledge about the organization rather than believing that the cause was important. If the :60 second television spot focused on the organization’s leadership and track record rather than the conventional emotional triggers, I would have donated.

Convince me you can improve the world first, and then tell me what causes you wish to help. picture-2.png
